What is Continuing Education for Nurse Practitioners (CENP)? |

The goal of the Continuing Education for Nurse Practitioner program (CENP) is to respond to ongoing educational needs of Nurse Practitioners (NPs)
and expanded role nurses
in a variety of clinical settings. The CENP will help these nurses achieve a high level of competence in order to assist clients to develop and maintain their optimal health.

Who is eligible to take the courses? |

These courses will respond to the continuing education needs of nurses, including:
- Registered nurses who have completed a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program (Pediatric or Adult);
- Registered nurses who are working in an expanded role or under medical directives in primary care settings;
- Registered nurses working as staff nurses with the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) of Health Canada , Nunavut , Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and Yukon Health services.

specific individual modules? |

Yes, you can take as many modules as you wish from any of the courses offered. Modules may be selected from any courses currently offered (except for Fundamentals of Primary Health Care which is available only as a full course). You can select these modules when you register.

Once you are accepted into the course and you have paid your registration fee, you will be given to a user name and password then you will have access to the private password protected site, and to courses when they begin. You will also be provided with access to the University of Ottawa library which will enable you to access online journals which are not public access.

Whether you are a full time learner or a part time learner you will have access to the course modules once you have registered and will continue to have access until September 30th, 2010 .

How are these courses delivered? |

Courses are offered online. Modules may be purchased independently or full courses may be purchased at a slight discount. Once purchased, course content is available until September 2010.
Each on- line module will consist of the amount of work equivalent to three hours of lecture time plus up to nine hours of additional readings and learning
activity for a total of 12 hours of coursework per week.

Learners will vary in their ability to cover the content in each module. We recommend that learners set aside 12 hours per week to complete all module related readings and activities. New learners may want to try one module first to see how they are able to manage study workload. |
